John W. Huffman, 90, of Galion, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 at Galion Community Hospital after a short illness.
Born Aug. 6, 1923 in Ashland, he was the son of the late Coyle and Watha (Eckelberger) Huffman. He is survived by his wife of many years, Betty (Romine) Huffman.
He was a graduate of Ashland High School in 1941. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in Virginia and then received a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University in Columbus in 1948.
John has been a Galion resident for 35 years coming from Ashland and has been a long-time member of the Galion Country Club where he loved to play golf. He owned his own company that manufactured air conditioning switches and owned several patents. He eventually sold his business to Emmerson Electric in Mansfield.
He is survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Mary Ann Romine of Galion; two nieces, Patricia Sue Nefores of Florida and Susan (Dick) Morris of Bowling Green; two nephews, John L. (Maureen) Huffman of Elmore and Scott (Mary) Romine of Galion and six great nieces and nephews, Jason and Nikolas Nefores, Alyson and Nick Morris and Seth and Jason Romine.
In addition to his parents he is preceded by two grand-nephews Ian Huffman and Stephen Romine; one brother, Bruce Coyle Huffman, and one sister, Jean Louise Huffman.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at Snyder Funeral Home Richardson Davis Chapel, 218 S. Market Street in Galion, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, with Rev. Ash Welch officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
