Mary C. Emerick, 59, of 6152 Windfall Rd., Galion, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at her home. She had been ill the past eight years.
Mary was born in Cleveland, on October 27, 1954 to the late Ralph and Mary (Martineau) Kittle. She married John W. Emerick on September 26, 1974 and he survives her.
Mary lived her entire life in the area and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from The Ohio State University. She has worked at Lifetouch in Galion since January 1996, where she was the Manager of Human Resources. She was a member of the Society of Human Resources Management. She served on the Galion Area Chamber of Commerce, the Richland/Crawford County Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Board of Directors and was the WIA Area #10 Chairperson for 2004-2007. She was a member of the Galion YMCA Board of Directors from 2000 to 2007, serving as Board President for two years. In the 1970's, she worked behind the scenes with the Miss Ohio Pageant, Mansfield, and the Miss America Pageant, Atlantic City, NJ. She was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #669, Bucyrus, and served on the Galion City Council. Mary enjoyed music, flower gardening, crafts, reading, swim meets with her son, shopping with friends and spending time with her dog Coby.
In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her son Curtis Emerick, Zürich, Switzerland, her sister Ida McCarthy, Wooster, sister-in-law Jane Emerick, M.D. and Dana Burke, Columbus, brother-in-law Jim and Laura Emerick, York, PA, two nephews, Jack McCarthy, Jr. Pensacola, FL, Joe McCarthy, Port Charlotte, FL, and numerous friends.
She was preceded in death by her nephew, Roger McCarthy.
Friends may call Friday, November 1, 2013 from 4:30 - 8:30 PM at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline. A Vigil Service will be held at 8:30 PM, at the funeral home with Rev. Michael A. Geiger officiating. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline, with Rev. Michael A. Geiger, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Galion.
