Wanda R. Sloop, 84, of Bucyrus was unexpectedly called to her heavenly home, by the Lord, peacefully at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday evening, September 4, 2013 at her home with her daughter, Vicky, beside her. Wanda is now, after a long lonely 14 years, united with her beloved husband, Clyde, who preceded her in death on July 2, 1999.
The Guest Book is expired.
Wanda was born in Bucyrus on April 27, 1929 to the late Leo Haycook and Ida Mae (Geiser) Haycook Lear. She married Clyde W. Sloop on June 21, 1947 and they had 52 wonderful years together.
An area resident for her entire life, she was proud of her home built by the hands of her beloved Clyde. She enjoyed vacations in Florida with her daughter and son-in-law on her Florida property.
Wanda attended the Lighthouse Baptist Church of Bucyrus. She retired from both Timken Co., Bucyrus and ITT North Electric, Galion. She was employed as an elementary school teacher with the Bucyrus Elementary School from 1947 to 1948. She served from 1946 to 1948 in the United States Air Patrol. Wanda quit work so she could take care of her mom, Ida. She took Ida into her own home and cared for her for several years. Wanda was a very generous giver. She always gave to those who asked and needed money. She was generous in giving her time in helping others, especially staying with the elderly in their homes to take care of them. She would visit the nursing homes bringing a smile to all she came in contact with. Wanda gave to all of the veterans' charities and she was most thankful for all of the United States veterans. She loved her cats: Benji, Lucky, Susie & Sweets Sweets. She always fed all of the outside strays. Wanda loved working crossword puzzles and she was an avid reader of the Holy Word, the Bible. She also read many other books, as she loved to read. Wanda and her late husband, Clyde, with big hearts, paid the remaining mortgage debt, in full, for Whetstone Baptist Church, back in the 80's. They did so, so the church would be debt free. Wanda loved her family very much and would do anything for them.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Robert E. Bell of Bucyrus; a brother and sister-in-law, Leo Arden and Sharon Haycook, Leesburg; a niece and her husband Stephanie (Haycook) and Brian Ortlieb; great nephews Tyler and Christopher Ortlieb, all of Leesburg; a niece Diana and her husband Richard Borders; great nephew Brad Borders, great niece Rosie Borders, great nephew Steven and his wife Kim Borders, great nephew Jammy and his wife Angie Borders all of Galion; and many great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, infant Janice Haycook and Maxine Haycook Lauthers.
Friends may call Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 9 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Bill Wert officiating. Burial will follow in Whetstone Cemetery, Bucyrus.
