Wayne O. "Brownie" Brown, 91, of Galion, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Born Aug. 23, 1921 in Bucyrus, he was the son of the late Harold and Elsie (Knieriemen) Brown. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Marian (Muhmeister) Brown.
Brownie was a graduate of Galion High School 1939 and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a life member of American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Galion Aerie 630. He was a member of Galion Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 303. Wayne loved playing cards and teaching his card rules. He retired from the City of Galion Water Filtration Plant where he was an operator.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Dwaine Brown of Galion and Brian Brown of Galion; five daughters, Sharon Lauer of Galion, Jeanette Montgomery of Marion, Phylis (Don) Monk of Galion, Cindi (Tom) Aciero of Galion and Elaine (David) Barney of Mt. Gilead; 27 grandchildren, Angela Hopkins, Amy (Sachin) Sardar, Bethany Brown, Michele (Jason) Miller, Shawn (Pam) Barney, Brandi Barney, Chris Douglas, Tracey (Scott) Schroeder, Gina (Todd) Winsor, Andy (Kim) Lauer, Mark (Shellie) Montgomery, Tony (Tina) Montgomery, Heather (Joe) Logan, Jeremy Brown, Jeff O'Neal, Janelle (Brent) Moore, Joe Zacharzuk, Don Jr. (Annie) Monk, Mike (Jennifer) Monk, Ron (Rachel) Monk, Ty Harding, Niki (Phil) Lilly, Tiffany (Matt) Basilone, Paula (Bob) Musgrove, Mike Wilson, Carla (Scott) Murdoch and Carl (Tabitha) Dye; 67 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; one nephew; three nieces and many cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Byron Brown and Wesley Hart; one daughter, Gail Dye; one daughter-in-law, Darlene Brown; one sister, Miriam Gates and a niece, Diane Judy.
Wayne and his family were especially grateful to nurse Macie, for her care and comfort.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery in Galion with Rev. T. J. McNew, III officiating. Military graveside services will be held by the United States Army and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
