Julia Kathleen Young, known to her friends as Julia B. or just Judy, formerly of Galion, passed away December 5th, 2012 at her her home in Gulf Shores, AL at the age of 92.
She was born Julia Barnitz on May 10th, 1919 in Letart Falls, Ohio, to William and Ruth Barnitz, and spent her childhood working on her father's farm. She graduated from Mt. Carmel nursing school in Columbus, OH, and on February 28th, 1945, she married Harry G. Young Jr. They moved to Galion in 1954, where they resided for close to 50 years and were active members of the United Methodist Church. Julia worked as a nurse for 30 years, and then later as a social worker. She eventually retired as head of adoptions for Crawford County Children's services. In her time she had the opportunity to place many children with loving families.
Julia is survived by her son Charles G. "Chuck" of Columbus, Ohio; her daughter, Barbara R. of Gulf Shores, Alabama; her daughter-in-law, Christine M. Young of Akron, Ohio; granddaughters Cynthia (Nathan) Morrow of Akron, Ohio and Julie (Jonathan) Bodine of Hubbard, Ohio; great-grandchildren Madison and Julianna Morrow and Louis Bodine, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her sisters Thanet (Nick) Kramer of Austin, Texas; Billie Jean Hoelscher of St. Louis. Missouri; Wilma (Larry) Nelson of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Elnora Wells of Coshocton, Ohio; and brother Robert (Corena) Barnitz of Mason, West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, William F. (Christine) Young, a brother, Hayman Barnitz, a sister, Bernice Carpenter, and Harry, her beloved husband and best friend of 62 years.
A memorial service will be held in Galion and announced at a later date.
