Joyce E. Grove, age 87, resident of Galion died Thursday, May 9, 2013 in Magnolia Terrace Assisted Living, Galion following an extended illness.
Born January 30, 1926 in Shelby to Glenn Henry and Irma Arminta (Stock) Raudabaugh, she had been a lifelong Shelby area resident. Joyce graduated from Tiro High School in 1944 as the Valedictorian of her class. A homemaker, she was formerly employed at the Shelby Air Force Depot and Shelby Mutual Insurance Company.
A member of the First Baptist Church, she was a former member of the Auburn Baptist Church where she was active in the Women's Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Tiro Mother's Club, Farm Bureau, Auburn Grange, and the Auxiliary of the Gideon's International.
Joyce loved spending time with her family and was especially faithful in attending her children and grandchildren's events. She enjoyed reading, making crafts, baking and was very fastidious about keeping her daily journal. She will be remembered as a dedicated homemaker who took pride in a clean and well maintained home.
Survivors include her children, Richard "Rick" (Myra) Grove of Newark, Susan Geissman (Greg Tidd) of Galion; and John Grove (Megan Reiners) of Ontario; seven grandchildren, Karen (John) VanVleet, James "Jim" (Lisa) Grove, Brenda (Shawn) Stockmaster, Brad (Michelle) Geissman, Brian (Kristi) Geissman, and Eric and Krista Grove; eleven great grandchildren, Abby and Lydia VanVleet, Lauren and David Grove, Brette, Luke and Grace Stockmaster, Molly, Graham, Casey and Elliot Geissman and her extended family, Bob (Connie) Geissman and Debby Grove and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, R. Doanld Grove on March 21, 2013 and one grandson, Brett Geissman.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Walter Keib will officiate with interment in Tiro Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and Monday one hour prior to the funeral service.
