Elmer Dewalt, 88, of Galion, died unexpectedly Monday, June 17, 2013 at home.
Born Sept. 10, 1924 in Ashley, N.D., he was the son of the late George F.and Rosebelle (Hart) Dewalt. He was preceded in death on May 2, 2012 by his wife, Marcella (Koschnick) Dewalt whom he married on July 17, 1954.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and a member of V.F.W. Post 4329 and American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 in Galion. He was employed in the shipping department at the former North Electric Company for 20 years. He then owned and operated Dewalt Shoe Repair from 1970 to 1993. Elmer enjoyed watching the news which helped shape his opinions. He was an avid gardener, liked to cook and bake and liked family events. He was a great counselor to his family, always offering sound advice when asked.
He is survived by one son, Terrance Dewalt of Cleveland; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Charles Barber of Mt. Gilead, Shirley and Russell Fitz of Galion and Theresa and Ted Nutter of Hebron; six grandchildren, Cindy (Kyle) Clouner, Melissa Fitz, Jennifer (Owen) Miller, Thomas Nutter, Chad Nutter and Jean-Pier Dewalt; one sister, Edna Reid of Galion and one great-granddaughter, Addelyn Marcella Clouner.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, six sisters and two grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion where services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with Father John Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Galion.
Full military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
