Charles H. "Sam" Ketterman (1923 - 2014)

Charles H. "Sam" Ketterman, 90, of Galion, died Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Mill Creek Nursing Center in Galion.

Born July 19, 1923 in Greenwich, he was the son of Charles E. and Inez (Baker) Ketterman. He married Anne Danchisin on April 15, 1943 and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2007.

He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and in the Philippines. Sam was a self-employed contractor and built many homes in and around the Galion area developing and building the Ketterman Addition. He owned and operated the former K&G Boat Sales in Galion.

Sam was a life member of American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 and a member of Elk's Lodge 1191, both of Galion. His favorite pastime was playing cards.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Charles and Mary Ketterman of Galion and Donald and Becky Ketterman of Palm Bay, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law Kathryn "Katy" and David Reeves of Galion; grandchildren Cindy (Chris) Nicholls, Sherry Salyer, Michael Reeves, Sam Ketterman and Mason Ketterman; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by grandson David Reeves; sisters Donna Ketterman and Florence Ketterman and brother Harry Ketterman.

Private graveside services will be held for the family. Burial will be in Edwards Grove Cemetery in Greenwich.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the United States Army.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation in care of the funeral home.
