GASTONIA - Bonnie C. Sousa Edwards, 63, died peacefully at CaroMont Regional Medical Center on Sept. 5, 2013. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of passing.
She was born in Whittier, Calif., on April 11, 1950. She was the oldest of eight children and is preceded in death by her father, Ellis Parker, her mother Betty, and by her beloved son, Robert Dennis.
Bonnie was a direct descendant of a Sioux Indian Chief and very proud of her heritage, as reflected in her amazing spirituality in all aspects of her life. She nurtured and counseled numerous children in the community. They all called her Mom or Mother, so Bonnie had a very great number of children whether hers or "adopted". We are all richer because of her love and wisdom. Bonnie never said, "Goodbye". She said, "See you later with a hand motion of I love you." Ride free and keep the wind in your face. She is with us all. God Bless!
She is survived by her loving husband, Tom Edwards; daughters, Hope, Dawn, Kristi and her son Scott Green and wife Alisha; stepdaughter Cindy of Chicago, Ill.; her closest sisters, Loretta of California and Sandra of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Dillon, Alexis, Aden, Gabrille, Damien, Riley, FeLicia, Sydney, Sierra, Brittany; great-grandchild, Jayden.
A celebration of life service will be held 4 p.m. Monday at Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Road, Gastonia, N.C. 28052, officiated by the Rev. Michael Simpson. The family will receive friends afterwards at the home.
