HUNTERSVILLE - Major Anderson, 49, died April 24, 2015, at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center. He was a native of Middlesex County, N.J., son of the late Major and Mary Anderson Sr. A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church, Mt. Holly. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Gregory Funeral Service, Gastonia.

Aycock, Dorothy* - Gastonia  
GASTONIA - Dorothy Jean Stewart Aycock, 87, passed away April 19, 2015, at Terrace Ridge Assisted Living. She was born Oct. 15, 1927, native of Gaston County, the daughter of the late Walter Clyde and Corrie Freeman Stewart. Dorothy was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, shopping and collecting Christmas items, especially nutcrackers. She was employed as a manager for over 30 years at the Belmont Abbey Book Store and was also a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Gastonia. The family wishes to give special thanks to Hospice of Lincoln County and the staff at Terrace Ridge. Left to remember Dorothy are her loving husband of 48 years, George Stewart Aycock; son, Robert Curtis Sanborn Jr. of Gastonia; daughter, Teresa Sanborn Mendigutia and husband, Felix of Summerville, SC; sister, Patsy Joann Howell of California; grandchildren, Tracy Robbins of Florida, Dr. Robert Curtis Sanborn III and wife, Lori Beth of Moorehead City; great-grandchildren, Luke, Laura Bennett and Noah and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert C. Sanborn; brother, C.L. Stewart and sister, Glenda Mae Stewart. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 258 W. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Shawn Griffin. The family will receive friends following the service in the Parrish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church - 258 W. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28052. Zeola Dickinson Ballard, 89, of Peak Resources, passed away April 28, 2015, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. She is survived by sons, Aqueelee, Maurice (Laura) and Tony (Brenda); grandchildren, Aqueelah, Jameel, Lena, Miles, Anthony, Duvalier, Monigue, and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Costner Funeral Home. The funeral will be Monday at Wilson Chapel AME Church in Grove Hill, Ala. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Costner Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.

Barker Sr., Jimmie* - Dallas  
DALLAS - Jimmie Fred Barker Sr., 75, went home on April 28, 2015. He was born in Gaston County to the late James and May Barker. Jimmie was a proud veteran who served two tours of duty in Vietnam and spent five years at the Pentagon. He retired from the City of Gastonia Police Department as Detective. Jimmie was an honorable man who served his family, his community and, most of all, his God. He was a faithful member of the Independent Baptist Tabernacle and a former member of Springfield Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. In addition to his family, he loved his garden and working outdoors. Left to cherish his memory are his wife and best friend, Eva Barker; sons; Jimmie Barker, Jr., Jerry Mason, Scottie Mason and Aaron Mason, daughters; Mary Ann Hudson, Annette Brown, Tina Knox, Geneva Mason, Judy Hoffecker, and Sherry Mason (the Special #7), 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Barker. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Independent Baptist Tabernacle, 2128 Dallas Cherryville Highway in Dallas with the Rev. Ralph Carver officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Community Care, 2275 Indian Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730. Jimmie's family would like to thank their friends for their many prayers and would like to extend special thanks to Frankie Bolin for her love and prayers. Bolick, Carl* - Cramerton  
CRAMERTON-Carl Cecil "Cotton" Bolick, 91 of Cramerton passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015. He was a native of Lincoln County and the son of the late Gerard Augustus Bolick and Mary Belle Massey Bolick Funeral service will be 11 AM Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Cramerton with Reverend Dr. David Julen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. Private Interment will be at Forest Lawn West with Military Honors provided by The Gaston County Honor Guard. Cotton was an outstanding athlete at Cramerton High and later enlisted in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He was shot down over Germany and spent 18 months in a German prisoner of War camp. He received a Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Medal and additional honors for his heroism during WWII. After the war, he attended Gardner-Webb graduated from Catawba College and embarked on his career in coaching and administration, including stops at Lee Woodard and Charles Coon in Wilson and then 25 years at West Mecklenburg High School. He compiled a record as a head baseball coach of 287-148 and was AD at West for 20 years. After his retirement at West he served as athletic director at Charlotte Country Day for 8 years. Cotton was a member of West Mecklenburg High School Hall of Fame, Charlotte Baseball Hall of Fame and North Carolina Athletic Directors Hall of Fame. He was also award-ed the Southeastern Baseball Coach of the year. Survivors include his daughter, Julia Nikodemski, grandchildren, Greg Herndon and wife Rene', Blake Braswell, Mia Hurley and Chandler Nikodemski, great grandchildren, Peyton and Parker Herndon, Marcus and Aireanna Mitchell and his dear friend, Dot Spangler In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathryn and daughter, Jan. Bradley, Elvin* - Grover  
GROVER - Elvin "Eggie" Bradley, 84, passed away April 26, 2015, at Kings Mountain Hospice House. He was born May 9, 1930 in Tryon, N.C., son of the late Milo Bradley and Josie Kuykendoll Bradley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Wallace and Floyd Bradley; grandson, Matthew Townsend. He was retired from Wix Filters where he was employed for 40 years. Mr. Bradley was a US Marine Veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his garden. One of his favorite things to do was to spend time with his family. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road, Gastonia officiated by Dr. Rev. Gene Ware and speaker Jacob Wilson. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Sunnyside Baptist Church Cemetery, Bessemer City, with military honors provided by the U.S. Marines and the Gaston County Honor Guard. Mr. Bradley is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bernice Helms Bradley; children, Tim Bradley and wife Janet of Blacksburg, S.C., Gail Bess and husband Larry, Kathy Leatherwood, Sheila Green and husband Daniel, all of Grover, Debbie Street and husband Charles of Gastonia; four grandchildren and a special grandson Robbie Green; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
