SHELBY - Zachary Dillon "Zack" Saunders, 12, died June 17, 2016. A native of Gaston County, he was the son of Brandon and Angie Johnson Saunders. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel in Shelby. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in Shelby is handling arrangements.

Scruggs, Randall Mark* - Dallas  
DALLAS - Randall Mark Scruggs, 62, passed away peacefully, after a series of illnesses, on Saturday, June 18, 2016. He was born in Mecklenburg County, son of Shealy Edsel Scruggs and the late Betty Jean Jolly Scruggs. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Janet A. Scruggs; a son, Christopher Mark Scruggs of Dallas; a sister, Cyndi Lee and husband, Alan of Charlotte; a brother, Sheldon Ray Scruggs and wife, Janey of Charlotte; granddaughter, Heaven Scruggs; stepson, Shawn Daughtry and family; step-daughter, Michelle Crews and family; two nephews, Robby and Kurt Scruggs; and a niece, Paige Lee. Memorials may be made to the: Alexis Volunteer Fire Department, 4168 Charles Raper Jonas Hwy, Alexis, NC 28006; Dallas Rescue, 206 S Oakland St, Dallas, NC 28034; or Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church, 10601 Moore's Chapel Rd, Charlotte, NC 28214. He was born Nov. 10, 1959, in Davidson County, son of the late Finley Patterson Smith and Virginia Medlin Smith. Steele, Harriette* - Charlotte  
CHARLOTTE - Harriette Lineberger Steele passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the age of 83. She was born on July 29, 1932, in Charlotte to the late Archibald Caleb Lineberger and Lillian Nunn Evans of Belmont. She was predeceased by her husband, William Little Steele III, and sister, Mary Louise Lineberger Roberts, of Atlanta. Survivors include her sons William Little Steele IV and wife, Donna, of Charlotte, John Caleb Steele of Morehead City, and Patrick Linehan Steele of Nantucket, Mass. She is also survived by grandchildren Kathryn Lineberger Steele of Atlanta and Harrison Linehan Steele of Raleigh; sisters Lillian Lineberger McKay (Dee Dee) of Charlotte, Jane Lineberger Huffard of Atlanta, and brother Archibald Caleb Lineberger III of Belmont, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Steele was raised in Belmont, and graduated from Chatham Hall and Sweetbriar College. he was a member of the Charlotte Debutante Club, NC Colonial Dames, Junior League of Charlotte and Merri-Mint Garden Club. Her interests were family, friends, church, gardening, cooking and travel. She treasured her family most, which brought her great joy and happiness. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh and delightful smile. The family would like to thank Dr. Ben Kirk, Summit Place and Hospice House at Southminster for their special care and kindnesses. A service to celebrate her life will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, followed by a reception at the church. Memorials may be sent to Christ Episcopal Church, Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 South New Hope Road, Belmont, NC 28012, or UNC-Lineberger Cancer Center, 101 Manning Drive Chapel Hill, NC 27514.

Stevenson, Nell* - Gastonia  
GASTONIA - Genelle "Nell" Stevenson, 77, passed away on June 25, 2016, surrounded by her family at her residence. Daughter of the late Robert and Daisy Williams. In addition to her parents, Nell is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jennings Stevenson, brother, Sonny Williams, and two nephews. She is survived by her godson, Robert Chase II and wife Brittany, and their two children, Aniston and Marek Chase; sisters, Sue Green, Betty Costner, Ann Norman and Jane Lindsey. She will be remembered for her loving and caring nature, generosity and good heart. She will be missed dearly. A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2016, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. Interment will take place in Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Stewart, Maude Lowery* - Gastonia  
GASTONIA - Maude Lowery Stewart, 94, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Courtland Terrace. She was born September 26, 1921 in Union Co., SC, daughter of the late William and Winona Lowery. Mrs. Stewart was a loving and devoted mother who dearly loved her grandchildren. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Gastonia and was faithful to her Lord and Savior. She formerly worked as a reading assistant at Rhyne, Pleasant Ridge, and Chapel Grove Schools. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Stewart; grandson, Trent Stewart; brothers, Eugene, Billy, Charles, Ernest, and Jimmy Lowery; step-brother, Jack Lowery; and step-sister, Martha Sue Lowery. Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Mark Stewart and wife, Sandy, Phillip Stewart and wife, Jeanne all of Gastonia; granddaughter, Emily Stewart Huss and husband, Paul; step-granddaughter, Kristin Miller; great-grandchildren, Merritt and Miles Huss; brother, Bobby Lowery and wife, Joyce; sister, Mary Waddell; niece, Sonja Cantrell and husband, Lewis. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Dennis Boyce and Pastor Lamar Creel, will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at First Assembly of God, 777 S. Myrtle School Rd, Gastonia. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers to carry her to her final resting place at Gaston Memorial Park include Bill Cleveland, Rick Watkins, Robby Costner, Paul Huss, Jim Jolly and Kenny Searcy. The Stewart family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Courtland Terrace for their dedication and the loving care they provided to Mrs. Stewart.
