Phillips, Zonia*  
CRAMERTON - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding," (Proverbs 3:5) was a verse Zonia Belle Phillips, 92 of Cramerton lived by. She was the matriarch of five generations. Her family will remember her faith, her gentle spirit and her fresh-made biscuits and gravy. Zonia was devoted to her family. She enjoyed listening to preaching on the radio and she liked to make patchwork quilts. Her strong faith helped her in raising her 10 children. Zonia passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Pearson Anderson and Lucy Jane Farr Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Crawford Phillips, and will be laid to rest by his side; one daughter, Betty Lou Phillips and two sons, William Phillips and Verlin Phillips, five brothers and one sister. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Lure Anderson and husband Willard, Evelyn Mason and husband Charles, James Phillips and wife Regina, Sara Garver and husband Randy, Larry Phillips, David Phillips and wife Tamera, Roger Phillips and wife Sherry; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Phillips; and two sisters, Ellavee Childers and Viola Gentry. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia. A celebration of Zonia's life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at North Gaston Church of God, 1310 Dallas-Cherryville Highway, Dallas. Minister Lonnie Harris will deliver the message and offer words of comfort to Zonia's family and friends. Active pallbearers will be Derek Phillips, Danny Anderson, Tim Ballard, Bryan Phillips, Daniel Knight, Doyle Anderson and Jeff Anderson. Graveside committal and interment will be held Wednesday, following the celebration of life at Gaston Memorial Park. CRAMERTON – Jesse James Pressley, 71, passed away May 18, 2016 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. Jesse was born in Union County on Feb. 26, 1945 to the late Jesse and Mary Luannie Crump Pressley. Survivors include his wife, Marie Pressley of Cramerton; his children, Hope Pressley, Todd Smith, Tammy Nelson, Sherri Gantt and Barry Faile; his sisters, Lillie May Smith and Magalene Helms of Monroe, Lou and her husband Ralph Grady of Mint Hill and Brenda Hester of Lancaster, S.C.; a large number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews; his in-laws, Chuck and wife Ginger Tilton; Tina and Ronnie Hooper, Dale Tilton, Gail and husband Vince, David and wife Kathy Tilton, Ann and husband Jeff Branch.
