Atkins, Shirley Frasheur - Gastonia  
GASTONIA - Shirley Frasheur Atkins, 82, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2016. She was born in Gaston County, the daughter of the late Joe David and Iva Chaney Frasheur. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, David Lee Atkins. Mrs. Atkins was a loving mother and mamaw and will be dearly missed by those left to cherish her memory. She is survived by her son, David Scott Atkins and his wife, Kimberly; and two granddaughters, Tiffany Nicole Atkins of Gastonia and Breanna Taran Arnoczky and husband, Derek, of Rexburg, Idaho. The family would like to express their gratitude for the professional care, love and compassion shown to them by Dr. Needell and the administrations and staff members of Life Enrichment Day Care and Gastonia Care and Rehab Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association by visiting www.alz.org. Bagwell, Jean Key Jenkins*  
GASTONIA - Jean Key Jenkins Bagwell, 68, passed away May 21, 2016 at her residence. She was born Nov. 20, 1947 in Clay County, Tenn., the daughter of the late Benny and Irene Key. Jean was a member of Gastonia Church of Christ and was the church secretary for over 32 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Barry Lee Jenkins; brother, Charlie Key; and brother-in-law, Jack Griffin. Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Kenneth Ray Bagwell of the home; daughters, Robin Jenkins, Kelly Jenkins Norman and husband Chip; grandchildren, Cassidy, Sam, Micah, Josiah, Jadon, Jonah, and Willow; great-grandchild, Raelynn; sister, Kathy Griffin; and niece, Audrey Griffin. A celebration of life, officiated by Pastor Chip Norman, Minister Michael Morton, and Minister Dean Meadows, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gastonia Church of Christ, 1919 N. New Hope Road, Gastonia. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in Westview Gardens, Bessemer City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gastonia Church of Christ, 1919 N. New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC 28054. Bryson, Douglas "Booty"* - Gastonia  
GASTONIA - Douglas "Booty" Bryson, 75, passed away May 20, 2016 at his residence. He was born May 28, 1940 in Gaston County, the son of the late William and Ruby Bryson. Mr. Bryson was a U.S. Marine and a member of VFW Post 9337. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who enjoyed golfing and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Morris and Glenda Singleton; brother, Roy Lee Bryson; and close friends, Carl McAllister and Earl Myers. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Barbara Tanner Bryson; daughter, Teresa "Teri" Edge; grandchild, Ashley Franckewitz; great-grandchild, Avery Franckewitz; brothers and sisters-in-law, Buck and Claudette Bryson, Gene Bryson, Larry and Carol Bryson; sister-in-law, Gloria Bryson; sisters and brother-in-law, Brenda and Jimmy Queen, Linda Neikirk; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. David Belle Isle, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Road, Gastonia. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will be in Gaston Memorial Park. Costanza, Glenn* - Gastonia  
GASTONIA - Glenn Michael Costanza, 55, passed away at home on Saturday, May 21, 2016. He was born in Dade County, Fla. and was the son of the late Jack John Costanza Jr. and Patricia Stewart Costanza. Mr. Constanza was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of New Covenant Church in Gastonia. He was the owner of Costanza Contracting Company, Gastonia. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sylvie Costanza; two daughters, Stephanie Collins and husband Alan Collins of Belmont, Natasha Costanza and fiancé Justin Simpson of Gastonia; sister Leisa Palma of Coral Springs, Florida; Aunt, Gloria Rittenhouse of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at New Covenant Church, 631 Efird Street, Gastonia, with military honors by The Gaston County Honor Guard. Visitation for family and friends will be 5:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at the church prior to the service. Interment will be private. Craig, Rankin* - Gastonia  
GASTONIA - Rankin Lee Craig, 57, left this earth peacefully on May 22, 2016, surrounded by his family at Lincolnton Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Jacksonville County, N.C. on Aug. 20, 1958, to Judy Brittain Craig Smith and The late Rankin "Willie" Craig. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rankin and Wilma Parrish Craig and maternal grandparents, Ralph and Ruth Phillips Brittain. Rankin was a veteran of the US Air Force. Rankin graduated from Ashbrook High School and was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memories include his mother, Judy Brittain Craig Smith of Gastonia; daughter, Savannah Heilig (Ashton) and son, Lee Rankin all of Dallas; granddaughter, Kinley Grace Craig; and sister, Rhonda Loftin (Scot) of Gastonia; mother of the children, Frances "Sis" Chitwood. A celebration of life service will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home, 2916 Union Road, Gastonia, NC with Military Honors provided by the Gaston County Honor Guard. LOWELL - Charles "Max" Dockery, 80, went home to be with the Lord May 22, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born November 20, 1935 in Graham County, the son of the late Blaine Cicero Dockery and Naomi Dockery Powell. Max was a U.S. Army Veteran. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Blanche Gunter Dockery; son Scott Dockery and wife Tammy and daughter Angela Dockery all of Lowell; grandchildren Trina Lattimore and husband Shawn, Brandon Dockery and Jada Blanton, Brittany Cabaniss and husband Jason, Tiffany Crank and husband Akleeah, Sierra Abernathy and husband Casey, Shiann, Leiah and Lacey "Sky" Dockery and Nick Rowley; great-grandchildren Hayla Hawkins, Landon Lattimore, Marlee and Parker Abernathy; sister Kay Moore and husband Tom of Lowell and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Jo Wright and Myrtle Carpenter and brother Jay Dockery. Edwards, John*  
John Garland Edwards, son of Ralph S. Edwards and Nell F. Edwards, passed away on May 22, 2016, at 82 years of age. He will be remembered as an easy going man who was well liked by everyone fortunate enough to know him. He served his country well during the Korean War as a US Army Field Medic in a MASH unit. He never talked about his military service, but was proud of it in his own way. John is survived by a sister Joanne Brotherton of Lucia, brothers Ned and wife Judy of Walhalla, SC, Wayne and wife Ceil of Okatie, SC, Ralph Jr. and wife Carolyn of Raleigh; nieces and nephews Debbie Shapiro, Greg Skidmore, Shari Skidmore, Heidi Edwards, Heath Edwards and Bill Edwards; cousins and others too numerous to mention. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hills Chapel UMC, 988 N. Carolina 16 Stanley, NC. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Fagan, Hulon* - Belmont  
BELMONT - Hulon "Paw" Fagan, formerly of Asheville, died at home on May 23, 2016. He was a kind and gentle soul who could brighten a room with his contagious laugh. He was born in Green Creek, N.C. on Sept. 18, 1927. He graduated from Wofford College in 1951. He owned and operated 13 Hulie's restaurants in the Southeast, Harrigan's restaurant and the Shrimp Boat in Asheville. Mr. Fagan served in the US Navy from 1943 through 1945. He was preceded in death by his parents JC and Ethel Fagan, and his daughter Janet Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Jane Leary Fagan; his daughter Julie Fagan of Spartanburg, SC; stepdaughters Leigh Tipton and her late husband Ted of Black Mountain; Valleri Harris and her husband David of Black Mountain; and Suzanne Wallace and her husband Bill of Belmont. He is also survived by grandchildren Chris Jones, Greg Jones, Jennifer Tipton, Keri Tipton, Sarah Harris, Grace Harris Root, Emily Wallace, and Maggie Wallace and his great-granddaughters Addison Sheline and Aubrey Jones; and his brother Cliff Fagan and wife Rose of Greenwood, S.C. A service to celebrate his life will be held 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont with Hospice Chaplain Greg Qualls officiating. The family will greet friends at the family's home immediately following the service.
