LYMAN, S.C. - Alma Gardner Cloninger, 93, passed away May 18, 2013, peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
A native of Gastonia, she was the daughter of the late William and Martha Gardner.
Mrs. Cloninger was the oldest living member of Loray Baptist Church, where she was an active member of WMU. She retired from Matthews Belk.
She is survived by her children, Dennis Cloninger and wife Sally of Gastonia, Teena Barnes and husband Woody of Lyman, S.C., Gay Sprankle and husband Marty of Kailua, Hawaii; grandchildren, Lisa Cloninger and partner Kathleen Smith, Kelly Fijalkowski and husband Anthony, Laura Taylor and husband Mike, Jake Beam, Kyle Barnes and wife Sara, Alicia Menas and husband Jeff; eight great-grandchildren; niece, Sylvia Gardner Lewis; longterm caregivers, Carolyn Wilson, Stacey Waters, Denise Brannon and Angie Yarbrough.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Dennis B. Cloninger Sr.; sisters, Pearl Gardner, Ruth Gardner, Verlyn Hall; brothers, Bill Gardner, Ray Gardner; and great-grandson, Adam Boyd Taylor.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Loray Baptist Church with Dr. Kent Cranford and the Rev. John Bridges officiating.
Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, prior to the service.
