Bennett Reeger

GASTONIA - Bennett Fitzhugh Reeger Jr., 93, formerly of Erie Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away July 10, 2013, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville North Carolina surrounded by his wife and children. Born May 13, 1920, a son of the late Bennett and Mildred (Hornstrom) Reeger.

Bennett proudly served in the United States Army during World War II as a Master Sergeant landing on Omaha Beach June 06, 1944. Surviver of two purple hearts an oak leaf cluster and many numerous other medals and stripes. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many and also loved all the incredible memories he was creating with his wife Terri, nine children, and many grand and great grand children throughout his lifetime.

He was a devoted hard working husband and father to his family and enjoyed working with is own father in painting/wallpapering and went on to work at G.E briefly, then began a career as a builder for over 25 years with Bondy & Stone Construction in Erie, PA. Retiring in 1985 from Reeger Builders, his family business.

He enjoyed many special and comical moments with his family and friends on an everyday basis, especially his golf outings with his brother, Earl. He proudly spoke of his two hole in ones and enjoyed traveling, bowling, hunting and fishing with family and friends, but most of all he love to joke with his children and was never lost for words. His family will always have him in their hearts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford Reeger, Howard Reeger and Paul Reeger; and one sister Doro-thy (Al) Granetto.

Survivors include the love of his life for 65 years, Theresa S. Majewski Reeger; brother Earl Reeger and his wife Shirley of Meadville, PA; sister Betty Hart and her husband Don of Erie, Pa: his loving nine children, Nancy Nielsen, and her husband Robert, Rita Miller, Charlene Reeger all of Erie, Pa; Richard Reeger and his wife Cheryl, Gary Reeger and his wife Kris, Ron Reeger and his wife Renee all of Gastonia, NC; Janet Carcic and her husband William of Statesville, NC; Linda Sharpe, Susan Beard and her husband Dan of Tavares, Fl; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

The entire Reeger family expresses heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the care and nurturing given him by the staff and employees of the Gordon Hospice House.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home of Statesville.

Prayer services will be immediately followed at the Funeral Home.
