Billy Joe McKenzie

CATAWBA HEIGHTS - Billy Joe McKenzie, 78, passed away March 9, 2014, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas.

Mr. McKenzie was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Gaston County to the late Barney Ray and Ethel Young McKenzie.

He was preceded in death by a brother Homer Ray McKenzie.

He was a member of Life of Faith Fellowship Church and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Rebecca McKenzie. Children; Jerry McKenzie (Harriet), Carol McKenzie, Billy McKenzie (Becki), Rhonda Cherry (Noel), Connie Fox (Dan), Todd Altman (Kim) and Crystal Kirkland (John); 17 grandchildren, Joshua, Lillian, Katherine, Craig, Taylor Rae, Casey, Robert, Noel, Chloe, Seth, Sarah, Daniel, Matthew, Kayla, Taylor, Brandon, Kody and also two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services to celebrate Mr. McKenzie's life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Benson Funeral Chapel with the
Rev. Mike Glover officiating.

Interment will follow in Gilead ARP Church Cemetery in Huntersville.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday also at the Funeral Home.
