Brady Whitesides

STANLEY -Brady L. Whitesides, 89, of Stanley Total Living Center, died Dec. 5, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

He was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Gaston County, son of the late Lawrence Monroe and Susie Jeanette Rhyne Whitesides.

Brady was retired from Firestone/Bridgestone Corporation after serving the company for 40 years and was also employed by Matthews Belk. He was a lifelong, active member of Unity Baptist Church in Gastonia. His family's farm land was donated to the church after first meeting in his parent's living room. He served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. From his farming background, Brady became an avid and accomplished gardener. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Billie Crenshaw Whitesides, by his wife, Betty Truelove Whitesides, brothers, Carl and Ralph Whitesides, and sisters, Margaret Cobb, Mary Coley and Louise Todd.

Survivors of Mr. Whitesides include his children and spouses, Sharon W. and Edward J. Carson; Kathy W. and Bill Grant, all of Gastonia; William Brady "Bill" Whitesides of Belmont and companion Lisa Cox; grandchildren, Matthew Alan and Amy R. Grant of Bessemer City; John R. Carson, II of Taylors-ville; Jamie Grant Lewis and husband Michael E. of Gastonia; great-granddaughter, Madison Elaine Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.

A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Friday at Gaston Memorial Park with the Rev. Roger Mathis officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church, 482 N. Myrtle School Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.
