GASTONIA - Brenda Fay Martin, 69, died Jan. 9, 2013, at Robin Johnson Hospice House.
She was born Aug. 20, 1943, in Gaston County, daughter of the late Will Dewitt and Grace Bradley Martin.
Brenda was a graduate of Ashley High School and took several banking courses. She was a loan officer with Southern National Bank, becoming BB&T, retiring after 20 years of service. Brenda was loving, kind, thoughtful and generous. She loved her church of 20 years, First Freewill Baptist Church. She contracted a rare eye disease that left her totally blind for the last 20 years, but
Brenda was determined that this would not alter her life or make her dependent on others. She was committed to learning how to read and write Braille so that she could remain self sufficient. At church she continued to be involved, volunteering with phone trees for the BV group, the Martha Goble Club, and other meetings that she would not miss. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
