BELMONT - Charles Jackson "Jack" Buchanon died Jan. 13, 2013, at Carolinas Rehab in Mount Holly.
He was born in Newnan, Ga. on Dec. 23, 1928, to the late Charlie Duried and Ruby Lyle Buchanon. He was raised in Hogansville and Thomas-ton, Ga.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Uneeda Garmany Buchanon, son, Larry Jackson Buchanon, sister, Joyce Waller and brother, Don Allen Buchanon.
He is survived by son, Terry Allen Buchanon Jr. and wife Miranda of Gastonia, granddaughter, Adrienne Chyba and husband Mark of Nobles-ville, Ind., brother, Johnny Buchanon of Woodbury, Ga., great-granddaughters, Ada Buchanon "Boy that gal's something!" and Grace Hendrix "There's my girl," great-grandson, Ace Chyba, his "sport model" and numerous adoring nieces and nephews.
His greatest joys in life were his family especially his grandkids and great grandkids, old westerns, and SEC football, especially Alabama.
Jack served in the Army
as a MP and Georgia National Guard as a tank commander and weapons instructor. He was awarded the WWII
victory medal "The Ruptured Duck" which he wore proudly at every special occasion. He also represented the state of Georgia on the pistol team at the 1958 National Matches in Camp Perry, Ohio.
He moved his family to Belmont in 1964 and worked at Chavis Textile and TCI/Yarntex until his retirement in 2009 with 45 years of service.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont.
A service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Bumgardner Chapel with Pastor John Mayberry officiating.
Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.
