COLUMBIA, S.C. - A memorial service for Charles William "Bill" Rhyne, 66, will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.
Mr. Rhyne died May 17, 2013. Born Oct. 17, 1946, in Gastonia, he was the son of the late Charles Wesley Rhyne and Mary Helen Baker Rhyne Ballard.
Bill was a native of Dallas and graduated from Dallas High School. He earned his AA degree from Gaston College and a bachelor's degree in business from Appalachian State University in 1970. At ASU, he was a member of the University Singers and the Baptist Student Union.
After several years working both in Boone and Columbia, S.C., he began a long career in school administration, working with the South Carolina Department of Education, the South Carolina Education Association, Richland County School District Two and the Fairfield County School District.
Bill was a member of Shandon Baptist Church, where he sang in the Celebration Choir. He enjoyed music, sports and was an avid golfer for many years.
Bill is survived by two daughters, Paige Lightsey (Patrick) of Alexandria, Va., Loren Latourelle (Shawn) of San Francisco, Calif.; a grandson, Jack Latourelle, and granddaughter, Lightsey, on the way.
