MOUNT HOLLY - Clayton Eli "Pete" Berryhill Jr., 86, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 24, 2013, at Woodlawn Haven Assisted Living in Mount Holly.
He was born Aug. 10, 1926, in Mecklenburg County, son of the late Clayton E. Berryhill Sr. and Sara Lambeth Berryhill, and was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Clippard Berryhill.
He worked for Lewis Motors in Gastonia, and after it was sold to Earl Tindol Ford he retired from there.
Mr. Berryhill was a member of Tuckaseege Baptist Church in Mount Holly. He was a loving and caring husband for 30 years. He and his late wife JoAnn spent many years in Eutawville, SC, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He served in the US Navy, and attended Berryhill High School.
He is survived by two sisters Nancy B. Aycock (Billy) of Charlotte, Billie B. Painter (Ronald) of Mineral Springs, NC; and a several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care given by his caretakers Carl and Kay Waters over the last few years, and to the staff of Woodlawn Haven Assisted Living for their love and care of Pete.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Charlotte, with the Rev. Jason Marlowe officiating.
