MOUNT HOLLY - Daisy McDowell Riley went to be with the Lord on June 11, 2013.
Daily was born the seventh of eight children on May 6, 1938, in Clover, S.C., to Wardell Sr. and Rosie McDowell.
She grew up in Mount Holly. After graduating from Reid High School, she moved to Brooklyn, NY. There, she met her husband, Richard Riley Sr. Together with their two sons, they returned to Mount Holly, where they were well-loved in their community.
Daisy was a cosmetologist and a very active volunteer, working with the N.C. Department of Correction and Gaston Hospice. As a devoted member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, she taught Sunday and Vacation Bible schools and served as an associate pastor.
She completed her religious education at Agape Bible College and Seminary, earning her bachelor's and master's degrees. In June 2011, she received her doctorate of divinity from Grace Providence Christian College. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Richard Riley. She also was predeceased by brothers, Wardell McDowell Jr. and Charles McDowell; and sister, Pensacola McDowell Higgins.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Riley II and Raymond Riley and wife, Terri; two sisters, Clara McBryde and Gracie Thompson; two brothers, Zeb McDowell and wife, Stella, and James McDowell; her grandchildren, Richard Riley III, Paige Riley and Ashley Riley.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Holly.
Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
