GASTONIA - David Arthur Chavis, 73, died April 24, 2013 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Gaston
County and son of the late Henry Bondell Chavis and Dorothy Bennett Mull.
David worked as a truck driver for many years for Akers and Johnson Motor Lines and also for Yellow Freight. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, member of the Teamster Union, Gastonia Masonic Lodge and Oasis Shriners. His hobbies included reading, music and being around people.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years and mother of his children, Cindy Planer of Gastonia; son, David Shaw of Gastonia; daughters Lynne Strickland and husband William of N. Charleston, S.C., Paige Meares and husband Keith of Rock Hill, S.C.; sister Debbie Mathis and husband Billy of Strawberry Plains, TN; four grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Founders Chapel, McLean Funeral Directors, Gastonia.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Pastor John Stanley will be officiating.
