GASTONIA - David "Dave" Neal Lewis, 79, of Gastonia died Friday, April 26, 2013, at Morningside Assisted Living in Gastonia.
Dave was a native of Detroit, Mich., and the son of the late Frank Lewis and Thelma Waldron Lewis.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Loray Baptist Church with Dr. Kent Cranford officiating.
Interment will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2013.
Dave retired as technical manager from Firestone/Bridgestone Tire and Rubber Company. He was a member of Loray Baptist Church, U.S. Navy
photographer, serving during the Korean Conflict
, and he received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan State University. He enjoyed volun-teering for Habitat for Humanity, Little Theater of Gastonia, Lions Club and the Schiele Museum. He was a world traveler and an avid photographer. He was a stained-glass artist, a scuba diver, woodworker, winemaker, treasure hunter and glider pilot.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Nova H. Lewis, daughters, Anne Kegeler of Charles City, Iowa, Jill Lewis Funaro and husband, David, of Juneau, Alaska, Neal Shotwell and husband, James, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; son, Rhys Lewis and wife, Martha, of Gastonia, stepson, Josh Lowe and wife, Whitney, of Peoria, Ill.; grandchildren, Hannah and Zachary Shotwell, John and Sonya Funaro, Eli Lewis, Caroline Lowe, Isabella Serrano; sister, Rita Nehls of Florida; mother-in-law, Margaret Hamrick; and brother-in-law, Keith Hamrick and wife, Luann; first wife, Gloria Lewis; and special friend, Bill Gormley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Don Lewis; and sister, Gail Boynton.
