Ferel Suders

GASTONIA - Ferel Edwards Suders, 91, went to be with our Lord on Nov. 11, 2012, at Abington Place Assisted Living.

She was born June 2, 1921, in Glade Valley, daughter of the late William Claude Edwards and Lillie Gentry Edwards.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Carmen Edwards Warren; brother, Merle Lee Edwards and two nieces.

She attended business school and worked at Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company in Greensboro. Ferel and her husband, Wilmer "Bill" Suders Jr. were married on July 4, 1942, in Chambersburg, Pa. After 20 years of military service, when her husband retired from the US Air Force, they moved to Gastonia in 1962. She worked in their family business, Suders Cleaning Service, until they both retired. They have been members of Lutheran Chapel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gastonia since 1962.
Ferel was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was never too busy to share the words of wisdom passed down from her mother, and she always had time to listen. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and sewing clothes for her daughters.
Ferel is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Bill Suders; daughters, Kathy Finch and Judy Gault, both of Gastonia; five grandchildren, Melissa Jones (Greg) of Hillsborough, Deborah Gault (Tony) of Gastonia, Johnathan Gault (Jessica) of Charlotte, Michael Finch of Charlotte,Meredith Finch Slessman (Jeremy) of Holly Springs; five great-grandchildren, Amanda Lamphear, Stephen and Sarah Jones, Tyler and Avery Slessman; one great-great-grandchild, Jason Smith.

Visitation will be 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Abingdon Place Assisted Living, 1680 South New Hope Road. On Thursday, visita-tion will be from 12:30 to 1:50 p.m. in the Family Life Center of Lutheran Chapel Church.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church conducted by the Rev. Michael Comer.

Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park, Singing Tower Section.

Pallbearers will be Joey Caskey, Mark Harrelson, Greg Jones, John Lockett, Jeremy Slessman and Keith Watts. Honorary pallbearer, Stephen Jones.
