GASTONIA - George Allen Banker, 90, of Gastonia, passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Greenwich, Conn., son of the late Franklin Allen and Grace Tween Banker.
George was employed by Homelite for 34 years. After retirement, he assisted in the office at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for several years.
George was a U.S. Army
veteran of World War II
from 1942-1945 serving in the Battle of Normandy, Northern France and Central Europe.
He was extremely proud of his two sons, their families and especially his five grandchildren.
Survivors of Mr. Banker include his loving wife of 60 years, Caroline Stephens Banker; sons, George A. Banker Jr. and wife Joan of Raleigh, Robert E. Banker and wife Annette of Gastonia; grandchildren, Holly Banker Ruoff and husband Steven of Charlotte, Chase Banker of Angier, Chris Banker of Kure Beach, Caroline Banker of Raleigh, Jake Banker of Gastonia and brother, Ernest A. Banker of Connecticut.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 in the Parlor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Braxton East and Rev. Dr. J. George "Gil" Gilbert officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Evergreen, A Quiet Place, Belmont.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Ronald Digby, the staff at Morningside Assisted Living and the staff at Gaston Memorial Hospital for their many years of loving care.
