Irvin Kalston

GASTONIA - Irvin Kalston, 92, passed away Nov. 24, 2013, at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Adam and Pauline Romansky Kalston.

Mr. Kalston was a veteran of the U. S. Army during WWII, where he served 3 years in the South Pacific in New Guinea, Philippines and Australia. After his discharge he attended New Jersey Technical Institute where he received a degree in electronics. Upon graduation, he worked for 5 years for RCA Service and then worked for the Naval Research Center building military weapons for aircrafts. He worked on the cruise missile program for 10 years. He contributed to the development of Naval Fighting Aircraft, F-16 and F-18.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and National Association of Federal Employees and a member of Temple Emmanuel, Gastonia.

Mr. Kalston is survived by one son, David Kalston of Gastonia; three grandchildren, Iris Burbette of Florida, Carrie McLaughlin of Virginia, Daniel Kalston of Maryland; six great-grandchildren, Aiden, London, Kayla, Erieal, Owen, Annabella; one brother, Edward Kalston of Philadelphia, Pa.

Mr. Kalston was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna Decker Kalston; son, Robert Kalston; sister, Frances Woolen.

Graveside services with military honors by the U. S. Army will be noon Monday at the Veterans Cemetery, Salisbury.
