James Morgan

GASTONIA - James Billy Morgan, 78, went to his heavenly home on July 22, 2013, at his residence.

He was a native of York County, S.C., born Aug. 27, 1934, to the late James Troy and Viola Mae Daves Morgan.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a military policeman. He was a member of Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church, and was an avid fisherman and loved to bowl in his younger years. He had retired from overnight as office/mechanic.

Survivors include his wife of more than 33 years, Shelbie Beatty Morgan; his children, Lawrence Upton and wife, Rose, of New

London, Steven Morgan, of Orlando, Fla., James Billy Morgan Jr., of Gastonia, William Edward Barley, of Florida, Annette Harrison, of Georgia, Sherie Apperson, of Charlotte, and Steven M. Benfield, of States-ville; brothers, Ronnie and George Morgan; sisters, Betty Barber, Brenda Messer, Gladys Mills, Patricia McKinney and Marie Frieze; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Celebration of life service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church, Sam Wilson Road, Charlotte, with the Rev. Rob Chambers officiating.

U.S. Army military honors to follow the service.

Interment will be private.

Honorary pallbearers will be his fishing buddies
