BELMONT - Mr. Jesse "Tony" Anthony Henson, 61, passed away Friday Oct. 11, 2013, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family.
A native of Gaston County, he was born Aug. 17, 1952, one of three children of the late Chief Thomas "Tommy" and Betty Moss Henson.
Tony was inspired by his dad to become a law enforcement officer. He was a Line Sergeant Officer with the Motor Carrier Enforcement, which then merged with the N.C. State Highway Patrol, where he retired with 28 years of dedicated service to his community and the surrounding area.
Tony enjoyed his work and the camaraderie with his fellow officers. He was also a member of the Belmont Masonic Lodge 627(AF & AM).
Tony enjoyed fishing and watching old movies and television reruns. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren who they lovingly called "Pepaw". He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.
Survivors of Mr. Henson include his wife of 40 years, Donna Ramsey Henson; sons, Chris Henson and wife, Katie of Lowell and Casey Henson of Belmont; sisters, Gina Davis and husband, Mark and Dawn Lemmond and husband, Don; grandchildren, Dylan, Lexy, Ian and Riley Grace Henson; and his beloved pets and companions Pepper and Rootie.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont.
A funeral service to celebrate Tony's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at the Bumgardner Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont with Pastors Max Pendleton and Mike Ivey officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Evergreen "A Quiet Place" with full honors by North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
