John Watzle Crews Jr.

GASTONIA - John Watzle Crews Jr., 83, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at home.
He was a native of Gaston County, the son of the late John Watzle Sr. and Louise Hogsed Crews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Crews; sons, Johnny Crews, Dillard Wilson and sister, Millie Ann Trendel.
John was retired as warehouse superintendent with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and was a Korean War veteran, having served with the U.S. Air Force. He was a founding member of Fraley Memorial Baptist Church. John enjoyed golf and running, and he was a volunteer with the Red Cross for more than 30 years.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Betty Hester Crews; sons, Joe Crews and wife Kim of New Mexico, Ron Cook of Gastonia; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Crews of Gastonia; brothers, Rudy Crews and wife Willie of Salisbury, Sam Crews of Florida; sisters, Betty Thomas of Lake Norman, Wanda Bates of Dallas; grandchildren, K.J. and Eli Crews, Seth Crews, Howie, Eric, Trey, Matt and Josh Wilson, Hailey and Caleb Cook, Lindsay Cagle, Sarah Blalock and nine great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with the Rev. Revis Fox and the Rev. Clayton Burch officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike and Jerry McSwain, Bart Bates, Geno Crews, Ronnie and Rowdy Crews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
