GASTONIA - Johnnie Bou-Kather, 83, went to Paradise on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Carolinas Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 29, 1930, in Warsaw, N.C., son of the late Amen and Edna Tabet Bou-Kather from Beirut, Lebanon.
Johnnie was a 1947 graduate of Gastonia High School and attended Belmont Abbey College. Just before he was to graduate, he was drafted into the US Marine Corps
to serve in the Korean War
where he served honorably. He was a co-founder of Bou Cleaners in Gastonia and worked in real estate. He was an avid golfer, card player, loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and loved people and his family.
Johnnie is survived by his son, Antoine Amen "Tony" Bou-Kather of Gastonia; step-children, David Hardee and wife Patty of Gastonia; Telena McCarty and husband Alex of Knoxville, TN; grandson Aaron and four step-grandchildren; special nephew George Salem and his children, Patrick Salem, Harold Salem and Helena Roberts; sister-in-law, Jean Bou-Kather; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Frances Carolyn Conrad Bou-Kather, brothers, Eddie Bou-Kather, Woodrow, Ed, George, Fred, Mike and Joe Joseph, and by his sister, Maggie Salem.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
A funeral service to celebrate Johnnie's life will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Deacon Jack Weisenhorn officiating.
Entombment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Rites performed by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church in honor of Johnnie Bou-Kather, 708 St. Michaels Lane, Gastonia, NC 28052.
