Rev. Mitchell Pruitt

MOUNT HOLLY - Rev. Mitchell M. Pruitt, 94, of 1552 Kelly Road, went to be with the Lord Dec. 28, 2012, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.

He was born in Greer, S.C., to the late William Perry Pruitt and Anna Heatherly Pruitt.

He was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Etta Rae Hawkins Pruitt; three brothers and two sisters.

Rev. Pruitt was a minister for over 53 years. He retired from Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, after serving for 40 years.

He was a graduate of Limestone College and attended Gardner-Webb College. He was a member of Alexis Baptist Church, Alexis, N.C., served in the United States Army during World War II, Battle of the Bulge.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Martha Homesley, Mount Holly; sons, Mike Pruitt and wife Becky, Kings Mountain; Don Pruitt and wife Rhonda, Hickory; Doug Pruitt and wife Lynn, Kings Mountain; daughter, Pat Pruitt Thomas, Shelby; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Jan. 1, 2013, at Alexis Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Neely, Rev. Sandy Marks, and Rev. Mickey Pruitt officiating.

Interment will be at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, Kings Mountain.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church.

Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.
