STANLEY - Moffitt Dewey Kirby Jr., 87, died Wednesday, July 17 at Stanley Total Living Center, Stanley
He was born in North Belmont, the son of Maggie Perry Kirby and Moffitt Dewey Kirby on December 21, 1925.
Mr. Kirby graduated from Belmont High School and joined the US Navy. He is a World War II
veteran and re-tired as a Chief Petty Officer from the Navy after 30 years of active and reserve service. He retired from the Meck-lenburg County Department of Health,
Environmental Services in 1987. He enjoyed gardening and his activities with the Masonic Lodge and Organization of the Eastern Star in Mt. Holly. He is a past Master of the Masonic Lodge # 544 and served as a past Worthy Patron in the OES. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Holly.
Mr. Kirby is survived by his four children, son Donald M Kirby of Gastonia, NC, daughters Valerie Kirby Pen-dred of Spartanburg, SC, Wanda Kirby Paige of Atlanta, GA and Cheryl Kirby Hardison of High Point, NC. He has four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings and his wife, Berline Faircloth Kirby.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Hillcrest Gardens, Mount Holly with Dr. Kendell Cameron of-ficiating.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mt. Holly.
