GASTONIA - Patsy Rodgers Peninger, 76, passed away peacefully on Aug. 29, 2013, after a brave battle with cancer.
She was surrounded by her loving family and the caring staff of the Robin Johnson House.
Patsy was born in Salisbury, NC on May 7, 1937. She was the eldest child of Grace and Buck Rodgers. She graduated from Boyden High School in 1956 and married the love of her life, Larry Peninger, in June, 1957. In 1965, they moved the family to Gastonia where they raised their 4 children. She helped with the family business, the Pen-Mart and also worked at J.C. Penney for 26 years as a sales clerk until she retired in 2006. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Patsy dedicated her life to her family. She truly felt that each of them hung the moon. Patsy loved to cook, plan family gatherings and spend time at the beach. Her contagious laugh, sense of humor and warm spirit kept the family glued together. Her strength and courage through her long battle with cancer was remarkable and she will live on in the hearts of her family as a true inspiration.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:00PM, Saturday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia, Founders Chapel with Dr. Ned Buckner offici-ating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Patsy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Debbie Peninger of Gastonia and their sons, Mickey, Matt and Mike; son, Rodger Pen-inger of Alpharetta, Ga. and his daughters, Emily and Mary; daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Kevin Kainz of Winston-Salem and their daughters, Morgan and Karley; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Carlyn Peninger of Gastonia; seven great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Beverly Rodgers of Lake Norman, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ki and Jim Roberts of Wilmington; and Patsy's cat, Mouse.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Paul "Larry" Peninger.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Robin Johnson House, Dr. James Boyd and Dr. Shawnya Gore for their kind and loving care.
