Ralph Champion

LOWELL - William Ralph "Pop" Champion, 71, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 13, 2013, at Gaston Memo-rial Hospital.

He was a native of Rutherford County , born March 5, 1941, to Grover and Ethel Toney Champion.

He was a Vietnam veteran of the US Army, and had retired from Smyre-Carolina Mills, and was also a mem-ber of West Cramerton Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife of 39 years Pearl Parris Champion; daughters, Sandra Johnson and Patti Miller; son-in-laws Henry Johnson and Ron Sauder; sisters Connie Thomas and Edith Hamm; grandchildren Chris Johnson, Jason and Lindsey Miller, great grandchildren, Alyssa, Alayna and Jordan Miller, Jeremiah McMullen and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. at Withers & Whisenant Funeral home.

Graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gaston Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Ivey officiat-ing.
