Roy Stowe

GASTONIA - Roy Lewis Stowe, 93, passed away peacefully on Nov. 28, 2013.

Born in Gaston County, he was the son of the late John Logan Stowe and Mamie Cloninger Stowe.

Mr. Stowe was a retired Captain with the City Of Gastonia Fire Department. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener who served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Stowe was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Harper Stowe; brothers, Rob, Brice, Fred, Clyde and James Stowe; sisters, Pearl McGee, Ethel Rhyne, Emma Kendrick and Willie Stowe.

Mr. Stowe is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Paulette Stowe of Clover, SC, and Richard "Rick" and Jennie Stowe of Bakersville; daughter, Martha Stowe of Gastonia; grandchildren and spouses, Leslie Stowe Sauceda and Kenny Sauceda of Gastonia, and Richard, Jr. and Ashley Stowe of Bakersville; great-grandchildren, Logan and Miranda Sauceda, and Richard, III and Rowan Stowe; numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends of Mr. Stowe are invited to attend his funeral beginning 3 p.m. Sunday from the graveside at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The Rev. Buck Harper will officiate.

Firefighter rites will be presented by the City of Gastonia Fire Department Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
