Virgil Passmore

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Virgil Nathaniel Passmore, 89, passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2013, at Robin Johnson Hospice House.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Elisha Emerson Passmore and Minnie Castle Passmore.

Mr. Passmore was retired from Southern Spindle and Flyer where he was a truck driver and rigger. He was a member of Maylo United Methodist Church and was active in the C.E. Wilson Sunday School Class and the Visitation Team. An avid fan of NASCAR and noted handyman, Mr. Passmore served his country in the US Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of D Day.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Passmore was preceded in death by a son, Steven Passmore; brother, Ralph Passmore; sisters, Marie Gosnel, Blanche Barnes, Lucy Passmore and Aubrey Passmore.

Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Fay Stroud Passmore; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Kaye Passmore of Gastonia and Michael and Vera Passmore of Kings Mountain; grandchildren and spouses, Shannon and Jason Ormand, Chad and Courtney Passmore, and Jennifer and Jeremy Scarborough; great-grandchildren, Haley and Matthew Ormand, Hannah Passmore and Colton Scarborough.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation beginning 11 a.m. Thursday at Maylo United Methodist Church with the funeral service to fol-low at noon in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Laura Auten will officiate.

Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maylo United Methodist Church, 1900 Spencer Mountain Road, Ranlo, NC 28054.
