MOUNT HOLLY - William T. "Red" Greene Jr., of 502 West Henry St., died Jan. 4, 2013, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.
A native of Belmont, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Beaulah Whitaker Greene.
He was a World War II
Navy veteran, who returned home after his service and joined the US Air Force
Reserves. He was activated into the Air Force in October of 1950 and served in the Korean Conflict
until March of 1952. He was a retired machinist from Speisman Industries in Charlotte and was a member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Frances Williams Greene; a son, Richard Scott Greene of Belmont; two sisters, Mickey G. Thompson of Tampa, Fla., and Irene G. Cook of Gallatin, Tenn.,
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver "Pete" Greene.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Raymond Johns at 2 p.m. Monday Jan. 7, 2013, at Greenwood Cemetery, Belmont. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Monday at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catawba Heights Baptist Church, 311 Belmont-Mount Holly Road, Belmont, NC 28012.
