Joseph Di Bruno Obituary

Joseph Anthony Di Bruno Sr., "Papa Joe", 74, formerly of Gaston County, passed from this life on Jan. 21, 2009, in Granville County, N.C.

He was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late William Di Bruno and Josephine Sedita Di Bruno.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Anna and Mary and brothers, Pat and Carmen and one infant son.

Left behind to cherish a lifetime of happy memories and invaluable life lessons are Maggie Clark Di Bruno and their children together, Carmen Steen, Maria Cloninger, Theresa Faw, Lisa Hamond, Laura Barsch and Angel Di Bruno; and Lela Long Di Bruno and their children together, Joseph Di Bruno Jr. and Nicholas Di Bruno. Mr. Di Bruno had seven grandchil-dren and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind Cinde Beam, Nikki Freeland and Angela Freeland, into whose lives he stepped to fill the void left by their own fathers, and he loved them as his own.

A private memorial service was held for Mr. Di Bruno on Saturday at The Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia, where those who truly knew and loved him gathered to honor his memory and celebrate his life.

Memorials may be made to the Gaston County Life Saving Crew, PO Box 1111, Gastonia, N. C. 28053, The Salvation Army Empty Stocking Fund or a charity of choice.

Joe Sr. was such a jovial person to be around. He loved to celebrate life and always eat. He welcomed me with a huge smile every time I visited his son and daughter-in-law. He has left behind a legacy in his children and grandchildren that will always be remembered. My sympathies to his family and friends.
