GASTONIA - Daniel Keith Wilson, 65, passed away Dec. 18, 2013, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Gaston County, Dan was the son of the late Lula Craig Hill Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jane Withers Wilson. Dan is also survived by his children and their spouses: Daniel Keith Wilson Jr. (Stacie), Emily Jane Oliver (Bill), and Benjamin Fred Wilson (Kehler). In addition, he is also survived by his much adored grandchildren, Walter Daniel Wilson, Katherine Stevens Wilson, Paige Withers Wilson, Ava Jane Oliver and Brooks Martin Oliver.

Mr. Wilson graduated from Hunter Huss High School. He volunteered to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of Sergeant. After returning from Vietnam, he and Jane were stationed in Quantico, Virginia, where he served in HMX-1, the Presidential Helicopter Squadron. Upon returning to Gastonia, he worked in construction and graduated first from Gaston College and subsequently from Belmont Abbey College with a B.A. in Accounting. He was a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Wilson was retired from Parkdale Mills, Inc., where he worked for more than 30 years, most recently as Chief Financial Officer.
He was semi-retired, currently serving as a financial counselor to W. Duke Kimbrell and was also a director of the Hatteras Funds, Raleigh, NC. He has served on numerous boards and committees including twelve years on the CaroMont Regional Medical Center, where he served as Chairman, and as a member of the Board of Trustees at Gaston College and Belmont Abbey College. Mr. Wilson was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Wilson was an exceptional father who served as coach for many of his children's sports activities in past years. He enthusiastically supported them in all their activities and served as a mentor and role model during their childhood and into their adult years.

Mr. Wilson and his wife Jane had fulfilled lifelong dreams of traveling since retirement, including trips to Europe, Vietnam, China, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and many states out west. His favorite trip was a cross-country trip on Route 66 in his prized red Corvette.
He enjoyed golfing with his friends and fishing on his boat "Grumpy" with friends and family during vacations to Ocean Isle Beach.

His grandson Walt was his special buddy for the past 10 years, and the two of them were happy to add Kate, Ava Jane, Paige and Brooks to their fun-loving group over the past 2 years.
