GASTONIA - Edward Wilson Forbes, 86, died March 5, 2013, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas.
Mr. Forbes was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Edison Forbes and Bertie Petty Forbes.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Olney Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Cockerham officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Interment will be private with Military Honors provided by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
Mr. Forbes was the owner and operator of City Lumber Company in Gastonia. He was an expert woodcrafter, life long member of Olney Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Lions Club, Kiwanis, member of the Last Man Club, US Army WWII Veteran, serving under General George Patton.
Papa was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who brought joy and happiness to all of our family.
Survivors include his son, Thomas E. Forbes and wife Donna of Gastonia, grandchildren, Mark Forbes and wife Betsy, Adam Forbes and wife Heather, great grandchildren, Katy Barnes Forbes, Charles Wilson Forbes, Sadie Gladden Forbes and Olivia Pearl Forbes.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Wellman Forbes, brothers, Ralph Forbes, Frank Forbes and Wylie Forbes, sister, Sarah Forbes Tolbert.
