LOUDON, Tenn. - James R. Poole, 78, of the Tellico Village Community, passed away Feb. 5, 2014.

He and his wife moved to Tellico Village in 1991.

Jim was a member of the Community Church at Tellico Village. Jim was a member of Kiwanis a volunteer for the Child Advocacy Center, Community Church , Habitat for Humanity and Ft. Loudoun Cherokee Museum. He and Margaret were avid supporters of the UT Lady Vols. Jim was a retired Colonel from the United States Army and a graduate of the United States War College in Carlisle, Pa. He was highly decorated throughout his 28 years of service, serving tours in Vietnam, Korea, Okinawa and multiple US posts. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Della Poole of Charlotte, NC. Survivors include his wife, Margaret of 57 years; children Debbie Hailey (Donnie), Donna Toomey (Pat), Jimmy Poole, Jr. (Pam), Deana Vernon (Jay); grandchildren Cait-lin (Ben), Kerry (Rusty), James, Jeremy, Jessica, Tara, Cole and Emily; great-granddaughter Adalynne Rose; brother Gene (Carol) and children.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at The Community Church at Tellico Village. Jim will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Military honors will be conferred by the Lou-don County Veteran Honor Guard. His final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flow-ers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society or the Child Advocacy Center.
