GASTONIA - Johnny Randall Painter, 71, died Dec. 21, 2013.

Born in Graham County, he was the son of the late John Edward Painter and Mildred McClung Painter.

Mr. Painter was a retired sales representative in the textile industry. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War who served on the USS Enterprise, member of the Moose Lodge, VFW and American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Painter.

Mr. Painter is survived by his wife, Janice Painter; daughters and son-in-law, Kimberly and Tracy Costner, and Johnette Painter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Brenda Painter, Donnie and Carolyn Painter, and Sherry Painter; sister, Sandra Hargrove; eight grandchildren including special grandson, Tucker Mays; one great-grandchild; faithful companion, Foxy.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation for Mr. Painter beginning at noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.

A service honoring the life of Johnny Painter will be held at a later date at Union Presbyterian Church.
