GASTONIA - Lawrence William "Larry" English, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014.

Born in Madison County on Feb. 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Herman Henry English and Belle Phillips English. He worked in retail sales in various management positions. He served our country in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean conflict and was an avid private pilot.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Luther.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Dona Upton English; son, Larry English; daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Jim Parhamovich, Gail Craig and Bill Carson, Patricia and Mike Galbraith; grandchildren and spouses, Erin and Doug Tatum, Kelsey English and fiancé, Scott Davichik, Amanda Parhamovich and Christopher Brian English.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. Monday at Gaston Me-morial Park, Mausoleum of Peace. Pastor John Stanley will officiate, and the Gaston County Honor Guard will present Military Honors.
