CHERRYVILLE - Paul James King, age 62, of Dale Drive, died Saturday, July 5, 2014, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Oct. 5, 1951, in Forsyth County, a son of the late Alvis King and Virginia Cook Morrow. He graduated from South Dade High School in Homestead, Fla. Paul was a retired police officer from Cherryville Police Department. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Capadano DE-1093 and a member of the VFW. Paul was also formerly employed by the N.C. Department of Correc-tions in Lincoln County. He was an N.C. Certified Sniper, N.C. Firearms Instructor, and his greatest passion was target shooting.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sharon Hamrick King; daughters, Shannon King Richardson (James), and Mellissa King Fecteau (David), both of Cherryville; son, Christopher King (Heather), of Cherryville; brothers, Pete Hamrick (Sandy), of Cherryville, and Louie Troutman, of Lexington; sister, Pam Temple (Paul), of Lexington; and grandchildren, Kyle and Devan Richardson, Logan Noles, Michael Sweat, Bailey Fecteau, and Zane King, all of Cherryville.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. at Carpenter's Funeral & Cremation Services, with the Rev. Jerry Lail officiating. Full military honors will be conducted. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
