GASTONIA - Walter Craig Auten, 91, of Gastonia passed away March 9, 2013, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia.

He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Gaston County, son of the late Luther C. and Kathryn Hart Auten.

A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith United Methodist Church in Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Kim Higgins.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church.

Mr. Auten is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Thelma Reynolds Auten; son, Don Auten and spouse Mary of Gastonia; brother, Carl Auten and spouse Sue of Gastonia; grandchild, John Auten and spouse Candace of Gastonia; great-grandchild, Gabriella Auten; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1511 East Ozark Ave., Gastonia, NC 28054.

Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
