GASTONIA - Albert Lippman, 90, died at home on Oct. 18, 2013.
He was born Oct. 8, 1923 in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a resident of Hicksville, N.Y., for 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary (Meinck) Lippman. He is the beloved father of Elaine/Thomas Carney, grandfather of Stefanie Tarantino and Janice/Steve Kahn, and six cherished great-grandchildren, Brian and Emily Tarantino, Olivia, Brady, Julia and Ben Kahn.
Albert graduated from Jamaica Vocational High School in 1941, enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and trained as a gunner/radio operator. During a bombing run over Germany, Albert was wounded and hospitalized for five months in England, receiving the Purple Heart. After the war he continued schooling in the typographical field, employed by Allied Press for more than 30 years.
Mr. Lippman was a member of Holy Family Parish for 50 years and was involved with many activities. He was also a member of the Holy Family Players for over 10 years. He was president of the Hicksville, N.Y. Little League for several years and was co-founder of the Roby Ryan American Legion post.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, 708 St. Michael's Lane, Gastonia.
The family will receive friends at the home from 5 to 7 p.m. on the same day.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to either Carolina Pregnancy Center, P.O. Box 5364, Spartanburg, S.C. 29304; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
