GASTONIA - Allen Laban Walker, 70, passed away at home unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 3, 2013.
He was born Aug. 8, 1942 in Cramerton to the late Ernest and Pat (Reece) Walker.
Allen graduated from Belmont Abbey College and went on to be a very successful Allstate insurance agency owner. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a great athlete. He was gregarious and never met a stranger.
Allen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice Overcash Walker of Gastonia; two daughters, Alicia Helms of Manchester, Tenn., Andrea Cossette and husband, Joe of Lake Wylie, S.C.; grandchildren, Erica Yocum, Erin Helms, Madelynn Bates, Ashton Helms, Michael Helms, Colby Cossette and step-granddaughter, Sarah Cossette; great-grandson, Austin Yocum; brother, Randy Walker; his constant companion and faithful dog, Leo.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Cramerton. Dr. David B. Julen will preside. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., prior to the service at the church.
