Buford Daniel Howell Sr., 68, of 809 Old Stubbs Road, departed this life on June 5, 2012, at his residence.

A native of Cleveland County, he was born Jan. 14, 1944, to the late George Daniel and Ellease Corry Howell.

Buford graduated from Washington High School and Morristown Junior College. He also attended Knoxville College. His first job after college was an insurance agent with North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company. He retired from KOSA (formerly known as Fiber Industries) in 1999 after 30+ years of service. After retirement, he worked several years for the Department of Transportation.
Buford married Catherine Davis Howell, who he affectionately referred to as "The cutest little thing I ever saw" on December 25, 1964.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy C. Howell.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 47 years, Catherine; a daughter, Tonya Howell Carson and husband Darrin of Shelby; a son, Buford, Jr. "Danny" of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Randy Vinson Jr. and granddaughter, Darrian Carson both of Shelby; a great-grandson, Logan Vin-son of Polkville, NC; a sister, Theresa Fuller of Cherryville; three brothers, Raphael Howell (Patsy), George Howell (Catherine) and Bryan Torres Howell (Kay) all of Cherryville; five sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; two aunts, three uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other rela-tives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Washington Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Clark officiating.

Burial will take place at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11 a.m. at the church on Saturday.
