GASTONIA - Carol Chandler Leighton, 56, died Aug. 20, 2012, at her home.

She was born Jan. 29, 1956, in Gastonia, daughter of the late John Mitchell and Vera Faye Conley Chandler.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Dean Chandler.
Carol was employed over the years as a pizza chain manager, as well as with Henley Paper Company in Charlotte, NC. For the past 12 years, she has been the account secretary for Gatewood, LLC. She loved her family, especially her husband, and had a special talent for home decoration. Little Thea-ter of Gastonia actors and actresses remember her for her infectious laugh when she came to see plays. She was an active member of Lowell Church of God.
Survivors of Mrs. Leighton include her husband, James "Jim" A. Leighton Jr. of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Angela "Angie" and Mark Peters of Shelby; stepson, Kevin Leighton and wife Tammie of Charlotte; stepdaughter, Misty Leighton Petrosino of Concord; grandchildren, Dustyn Peters, Tay-lor and Phoenix Petrosino; brothers and sisters-in-law, James Robert and wife Susan Bartulis Chandler of Gastonia; John M. and Kim Chandler of Ranlo; nephews, Caleb Chandler and Brett Chandler of Ranlo; special friends, Sherry and Dean Mayhew; Betty Black; Jerry and Suzette Bryson.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lowell Church of God.
A funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lowell Church of God with the Revs. Joe Heffner and Paul Collins officiating.
The processional for the committal service will depart Lowell Church of God at 10 a.m. Thursday, for a 10:30 a.m. service at Gaston Memorial Park.
